Best Medical Schools in the Caribbean

There are a few options if you are looking to attend the best medical schools in the Caribbean. Some include the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUCSM), St. George’s University, and the St. James School of Medicine.

St. George’s University

Located in the Caribbean, St. George’s University is a well-regarded international school recognized as one of the world’s largest medical schools. It offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees in science, medicine, and healthcare. The institution has a campus in Grenada and Jamaica.

Its students come from over 150 countries worldwide, making it one of the most diverse educational institutions in the world. Founded in 1976, St. George’s has provided quality medical education to over 19,000 physicians, contributing to the growth of the global healthcare system.

Although it is not the highest-ranked Caribbean medical school, it has few advantages over competitors. First, its tuition is quite affordable, costing about $28,305 for the six-year path to a Bachelor of Science or Doctor of Medicine. American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine

The American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine is a private medical school. It was founded in 1978 and is one of the oldest Caribbean medical schools. This private school is located in St. Maarten.

The dean of this school, Dr. Joseph Flaherty, is amidst an aggressive marketing campaign designed to boost the school’s image and increase the number of medical graduates from this part of the world. He has also hired public relations. King Edelman to help him achieve his goals.

As one of the oldest Caribbean medical schools, this institution has the reputation to back it up. In addition to the obvious, it offers opportunities for students to engage in other healthcare systems, including the United States and Canada.

Students who complete their studies here can pursue careers in the US, Canada, or even the Caribbean. Most of the AUC School of Medicine graduates secure residencies at some of the most prestigious healthcare institutions in the country.

St. James School of Medicine (SJSM)

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently charged Saint James School of Medicine (SJSM) with fraudulently selling school credentials. FTC alleges that SJSM lured students with misleading advertising and illegal lending contracts.

The defendants allegedly misrepresented the Saint James Medical School’s medical license exam passage rate and residency match rates. They also failed to notify students of their rights under federal law. According to the FTC, SJSM agreed to settle with the FTC, including a stipulated monetary relief order and a permanent injunction.

Saint James is charged with violations of the Telemarketing Sales Rule, Credit Practices Rule, and Holder Rule. It has also been prohibited from making unsubstantiated claims. Specifically, SJSM has been barred from falsely claiming that it can help students get into top U.S. universities.

Saint James School of Medicine is a for-profit private offshore medical school. It has two basic science campuses, one in the British Overseas Territory of Anguilla and the other in the Lesser Antilles. It has been in operation since 2000.
